Podiatry Shockwave Therapy
Podiatry shockwave therapy, or Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), is a noninvasive, outpatient treatment that applies acoustic pressure waves to chronic soft tissue injuries. It accelerates healing, breaks down scar tissue, and reduces persistent foot and heel pain without surgery.
Common Conditions Treated
- Plantar Fasciitis: The most common podiatric application, targeting stubborn heel and arch pain.
- Achilles Tendonitis: Stimulates collagen production and tissue repair in the back of the ankle.
- Ankle & Foot Tendinopathies: Used when soft tissue injuries fail to heal after ≥ 6 weeks.
What to Expect During Treatment
- Procedure Length: Takes 5 to 30 minutes per session.
- Course of Treatment: Usually requires 3 to 6 sessions, spaced 3 to 7 days apart.
- Sensation: Patients feel acoustic pulses, which may cause minor discomfort when hitting extremely tender areas.
- Side Effects: Minimal risks, with potential for mild bruising or temporary swelling.
